Memorial Service for EIU Student Scheduled On Campus Wednesday Evening

A Student Memorial Service honoring Byron Edingburg, 23, of Chicago, will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in the Grand Ballroom, MLK Jr. Union, on the campus of Eastern Illinois University. The entire campus community is welcome to attend.

The event, which will feature spoken tributes from several of Mr. Edingburg’s friends, will include an open opportunity for students and faculty to share their thoughts, as well.  Additionally, members of the campus community will have the opportunity to write messages in a memory book and leave cards of condolences; both will be presented to the Edingburg family.

“The entire university is deeply saddened by this tragic loss of one of our students,” said Lynette Drake, EIU’s interim vice president for student affairs. “Incidents such as this are so rare in our community that it truly leaves us in a state of shock. With a heavy heart, I ask that we each keep Byron’s mother, brother, family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.  This is a difficult time for our university community.”
