A wheelchair-bound man was fatally injured in Olney Thursday night when he was struck by a semi. Another pedestrian pushing the wheelchair was also struck and injured.

State police say 53-year-old Shawn P. Tate of Olney was being pushed by 17-year-old Ian M. Tate of Olney in the northbound left lane of West Street, just north of North Avenue in Olney at 8:40pm. A northbound semi driven by 55-year-old James D. Butler of Olney was traveling north and was unable to see the pedestrians due to the darkness and the dark-colored clothing they were wearing. The rig struck both pedestrians.

Shawn Tate, the man in the wheelchair, suffered fatal injuries. He was taken to Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. Ian Tate was transported to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Butler was not injured. No citations were issued.
