Koerner Distributor of Effingham held a formal groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning for a distribution facility in the city business park.

The 183,000 square foot facility is to be completed within 10 months. Dirt work has already begun at the site on the southwest corner of Raney Street and Pike Avenue.

Koerner's current Effingham facility is bursting at the seams and company president Paul Koerner indicated that employees will be pleased with the new home. Koerner also indicated that the firm did its due diligence in deciding to stay in Effingham, enlisting an East Coast logistics firm that determined Effingham was one of two top choices for the the new facility and he indicated the combination of head and heart led to the decision to stay here.

Company founder Carl Koerner, Jr. purchased Jul Fischer Distributor and the firm has grown, adding Coors Beer when it first came to Illinois. Koerner's also markets bottled water and juices in addition to its beers and spirits.

18,000 square feet of the new facility at the intersection of Raney and Pike will be targeted for office space with the balance used for warehousing and distribution.
