Effingham Unit 40 Director of Creativity and Innovation Joe Fatheree has received one of two national awards for 2017 from the organization "itslearning". The award includes a $5,000 grant.

itslearning is a firm seeking to improve education through technology. One way itslearning seeks to accomplish its goal is through The Heart of Education Award. Two awards are being presented, one to a Grades K-8 teacher and one to a Grades 9-12 teacher. Fatheree was the Grades 9-12 winner. He was honored in a ceremony Monday at Effingham High School.

The award is the latest in a series of honors for Fatheree, including at the national and international levels where he was a Top 10 finalist for the Global Teaching Prize.
