The Altamont Board of Education Monday approved a three-year contract agreement with district teachers, and accepted an irrevocable letter of retirement from Superintendent Jeff Fritchtnitch.

Fritchtnitch had indicated earlier he planned to retire in the next couple of years. His retirement is effective at the close of the 2019-2020 school year.

Board members also voted to extend the contract of high school principal Jerry Tkachuk for four years.

The Board also accepted an irrevocable letter of retirement from Melanie Thornton. In other personnel moves, the Altamont board hired Jeff Nelson as a custodian and Jeremy Meyers as a bus driver, employed Courtnie Mullen as district technology integration specialist, and hired Stephanie Zimmer as Agriculture teacher for next year.

Also Monday, Fritchtnitch told the Board he spoke with Irwin Bleacher Company about a quote for replacing the decking for the black chair seats in the high school gym, and also reported that the Effingham Regional Career Academy "is gaining traction". He said he assisted in a video that will be marketing the Academy, which will offer classes in various subjects that will be available to students from various districts in the area.

Board members reviewed various end-of-year events, including 8th grade promotion on May 18, Prom on April 29, followed by Post Prom, the Grades 6-12 Band and Chorus Concert on May 7, Senior Awards Day on May 10, Sports Awards Night on May 11, Baccalauerate on May 17, and Commencement on May 20.
