Two semis collided near Edgewood Thursday evening, blocking southbound traffic for some time.

State police report a rig driven by 54-year-old Margaret Lecomte of Sealy, Texas stalled in the right lane of traffic. A following rig driven by 24-year-old Michael Anthony Smith of Kennett, Missouri could not stop in time and rear-ended the trailer of the Lecomte rig.

Both drivers were injured. Lecomte was taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Smith was airlifted by Air Evac to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

State police say the 7pm crash caused both southbound lanes of I-57 to be closed for quite some time.
