Three Injured in Crash Near Altamont

Three people were injured in a crash near Altamont Monday night.

Effingham County sheriff's deputies were called to US Route 40, a half-mile west of 575th Street in Mound Township at 10:50pm. A vehicle driven by 23-year-old Jeffrey Taylor of Vandalia was traveling eastbound and drifted into the westbound lane. Taylor's vehicle collided with an oncoming vehicle driven by 63-year-old Henry Ward of Altamont.

Taylor and Ward were both injured, as was a passenger in Ward's vehicle, 57-year-old Mary Ward of Altamont. All three were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Taylor was cited for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
