Jobless Numbers Better for February

Unemployment rates in area counties improved for February.

The Effingham County jobless rate was an even 5%, down from 6.2% in January and down frm 5.9% in February 2016.

In the area:

Clay County--6.5%, down from 7.9% in January and from 8.6% in February 2016

Cumberland County--5.4%, down from 7% in January and from 6.6% in February 2016

Fayette County--7.3%, down from 9.2% in January and from 8.1% in February 2016

Jasper County--6.9%, down from 8.4% in January and from 7.4% in February 2016

Shelby County--5.8%, down from 7.3% in January and from 7.1% in February 2016

The Illinois jobless rate in February was 5.5%, down from 6.5% in January and from 6.6% in February 2016.

The national jobless rate in February was 4.9%, down from 5.1% in January and from 5.2% in February 2016.
