Petitions are available for growers interested in running for open Illinois Soybean Board director positions in six districts, one in our area. The open positions are for a three-year term.

Interested, eligible farmers may complete a petition by May 15. Petitions can be obtained from the Illinois Department of Agriculture, local University of Illinois Extension offices and the ISB office.

District 13 is holding director elections July 6. The district includes Fayette, Bond, Marion and Montgomery counties. Gary Berg of St. Elmo is not eligible for re-election due to tenure provisions.

To be eligible to serve as a director, candidates must be an Illinois resident and a resident grower of the district he or she seeks to represent, of legal voting age and be a contributor to the soybean checkoff.

Any person deciding to run as a write-in candidate must also meet the eligibility requirements, and submit a Declaration of Intent form to the Illinois Director of Agriculture no later than 5pm June 30.
