Water Authority Board Allows Tent Camping

Effingham Water Authority trustees have agreed to permit tent camping on property at Lake Sara.

The Board approved guidlines providing for a maximum number of two tents at any time. The maximum size of a tent shall be 12 feet by 12 feet. A camping tent may be on the property for a maximum of three days, and then allowed for the next four days. Tents are not to signifcantly obstruct a neighbor's view of the lake, and the tents must be maintained in good condition.

The Board also discussed lease and ordinance violations. Statute restricts the maximum fine to $75.

Water Authority board members also discussed David Orr's request for a heliport on his property at the lake. Orr told trustees at their February meeting that the landings would be infrequent. The Board plans to meet with Orr and with Water Authority Attorney Tony Siemer to develop an agreement that would be reviewed on an annual basis. The Board would also require ample notice prior to a use of the helicopter at the lake so a Water Authority boat could be present. Other issues were remaining safety concerns for boat traffic and neighboring properties and the suggestion of finding an alternate site close to Orr's residence should it be needed.

The Board agreed to the terms for use of touchless boat covers, agreed to purchase a new mower, and indicated no interest in property adjacent to Water Authority being sold by Mark Mayhood, allowing him to put it up for sale to the public.
