The Teutopolis Board of Education is hosting an Open House at Teutopolis High School this Sunday to let the public see why they'd like to renovate or replace a portion of the building.

The Open House will run from 1:30 to 3:30pm and teachers and staff members will be on hand to conduct tours, but you'll have the option of going through the building on your own. Meet at the high school office.

The Board also approved a revision of their previous resolution as to how funds would be used if the school facilities tax question passes in Effingham County on April 4. The revised resolution states the Board's use of funds would be:

--commit funds for future construction

--abate 50% of the current bonds that have been issued

--save the balance of funds generated for general maintenance

The Board also discussed some phone issues at Teutopolis Grade School and looked at systems that operate with the Internet, and also discussed bandwidth issues at the grade school and prices to upgrade that bandwidth.

The Board approved summer workers including Melinda Bloemer, Darlene Unkraut, Tess Borries, Josh Cottrill, Teri Heuerman, Cheryl McLeod and Dan Blankenship, and renewed membership in the IHSA for next year. The Board extended Cathy Esker's contract by six days and Diane Grinestaff's contract by two days to take care of end-of-year items this year and start-of-year items for the coming school year.

Board members approved the Summer Library Program for Tuesdays from 8:30 to 11am from May 30 through July 25; approved next year's school calendar; and approved Morgan Wilson as a volunteer golf coach for next school year.

The Teutopolis board approved advertising for a high school secretary since Lois Meinhart's resignation as a secretary was accepted as of the end of the school year. The Board also accepted Kay McMahon's resignation as of the end of the 2020-2021 school year, and approved a new three-year contract for Superintendent Bill Fritcher. The Board accepted the resignation of Michael Buening as junior high girls basketball coach, hired Kent Niebrugge and Steve Fritcher as junior high track coaches, and approved wage increases for building principals, unit office staff members, transportation director, technology director and staff not represented by the support staff union for next school year.
