This spring’s Effingham County Vision 2020 Community Celebration of Excellence Breakfast will feature Dr. Rick Workman, founder and executive chairman of Heartland Dental, based in Effingham. Dr. Workman will discuss his journey of success and how we can build dreams for the future.

This breakfast will be held on Friday, March 31 from 7:30-9:00 a.m. (Doors open at 7:00 a.m.) at the Thelma Keller Convention Center. Admission is $15 per person and $5 of each ticket sold will go to the Effingham High School and St. Anthony High School Scholarship Fund.  Register by email: chamber@effinghamcountychamber.com or call the Chamber office at 217-342-4147. Tickets may also be purchased online at effinghamcountychamber.com.

Shortly after graduating from the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 1980 and starting his own office, Dr. Workman set out to create a world-class dental support organization that would relieve the management burden for supported dentists by offering an array of non-clinical administrative support such as human resources, accounting, supply and equipment procurement, marketing and customer support. Today, Heartland Dental is the largest dental support organization in the US, supporting offices, dentists and team members nationwide.

While Dr. Workman’s corporate success spans America, he has never forgotten his roots and continues to apply his Midwestern farm values to his business and philanthropy. His corporate office remains in Effingham, and he and his wife Angie have generously donated to several organizations including the Richard E. Workman Sports & Wellness Complex, TREC, Effingham Public Library, Effingham Performance Center and numerous other local organizations.

Dr. Workman has received many awards and honors and is a frequent contributor to many dental and business magazines. He is a recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Masters Category, and the BESI (Business Ethics & Social Involvement) Award from the East Central Illinois Development Corporation. Heartland Dental has been recognized in Inc. Magazine's Top 500 fastest growing companies and ranked third on Inc. Magazine's 2013 Hire Power list, which recognizes the top 100 job creators in the country.

Several Effingham residents and students will participate in the program including Effingham Police Chief Jeff Fuesting who will serve as emcee. Those attending will also get a first look at efforts to expand Effingham County’s Vision 2020 efforts into the future.
