An Urbana man was sentenced to prison time Monday in Effingham County Circuit Court, although he will have a chance to avoid the usual prison life.

30-year-old Matthew Dye was sentenced to three years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to aggravated battery of a peace officer in January. However, Dye was recommended for the impact incarceration, or Boot Camp program. If Dye successfully completes the program, it would complete his obligation for the offense.

Another count of aggravated batter and a count of aggravated assault were dismissed as part of the negotiated plea.
