Another of the defendants charged in the Cumberland County shooting death of Eric Lavaly last summer has been placed on probation and given jail time for his role.

28-year-old Trenton Adamson of Greenup pleaded guilty to a Class 4 felony count of obstructing justice for destroying evidence. The charge stems from Lavaly's death in July 2016 at Adamson's house in Greenup. Authorities say Adamson and other defendants were part of a plot to rob Kyle Covault of Indianapolis when Covault arrived at the house to do a drug deal. Instead, a scuffle broke out and shots were fired, killing Lavaly and wounding Covault. Lamont Mimms of Mattoon pleaded guilty to Lavaly's murder, who was also at Adamson's house. Mimms received a 23-year prison sentence.

Adamson was placed on 30 months' probation including 180 days in Cumberland County Jail, although 124 days of that jail sentence were stayed pending Adamson successfully completing probation. He must also pay various fines and fees.

That leaves Covault's case to be decided. He is charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and unlawful use of a weapon. Covault is due in court for a pre-trial hearing on March 13.
