The Neoga Board of Education Thursday hired Benjamin Johnson as district superintendent effective July 1.

Johnson is currently the assistant superintendent and has been an administrator with the district since 2005. In this role, his responsibilities include general management, overseeing education standards, allocating resources, hiring and acting as the point person for interactions with government agencies.

Johnson will succeed Beth Pressler, who is completing her second year as Interim Superintendent at Neoga.

“We’re excited to have Ben step up and lead our school district into the future,” said Chris Strohl, Neoga Board of Education President. “He has over 20 years in the public education system and we have tremendous confidence in Ben’s vast amount of knowledge, experience and ability to contribute at a high level for our district.”

Prior to joining the Neoga School District as high school principal, Johnson held the position of assistant principal at Massac County High School in Metropolis. He also taught high school math and coached basketball and track at Anna-Jonesboro and Rochelle High Schools. Johnson earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Idaho and his Master of Science Degree in Educational Administration from Eastern Illinois University.

Johnson is active in the Neoga community volunteering his time with New Hope Church, the Neoga Park District and the Neoga Partnership for Progress.
