A Shelby County judge has denied a reduction in bond for a Cowden resident charged with aggravated battery of a child.

19-year-old Devan Porter is accused of physically abusing his infant daughter. Porter was arrested in November.

The child's mother, 20-year-old Kayla Girard of Cowden, is charged with the same Class X felony offense.

Porter sought a reduction in his $100,000 bond to $50,000, but Judge Allen Bennett denied the request.

Girard had indicated in an earlier court appearance that she would also seek a bond reduction, but did not do so in court Monday.

Porter's case is to go to trial February 21. He has a pre-trial hearing set for February 14.

Girard's trial is set to begin March 20, with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for March 6.

Porter and Girard are both being held in Shelby County Jail in Shelbyville.
