Effingham has advanced to the round of 32 in a national competition for the best City Hall.

An organization known as Educate Local Government Leaders is sponsoring the competition that began with a round of 64. Effingham advanced with a victory over an East Coast community with a population of more than 100,000.

Effingham is now battling Haines City, Florida. This week's voting will continue through midnight Eastern time on Friday.
