Semi Trucks Collide on I-57

State Police report that at 3:14 Friday afternoon a Freightliner Driven by Daniel Feddeck, 35 of Picayune Mississippi was traveling on I-57 southbound at mile post 166 in the right lane of traffic. David Haslett, 54 of Fillmore, driving an International, was leaving the rest area preparing to merge onto I-57 when Feddeck changed into the left lane to allow Haslett to merge. Haslett then unexpectedly prematurely merged onto I-57 traveling through the median grass before the end of the ramp and drove into the side of Feddeck's semi at its front tandem axles. 
 
Feddeck's semi suffered significant front end damage and came to a rest in the center of both southbound lanes while Haslett's semi suffered significant trailer damage and came to a rest on the right shoulder.
 
Haslett was taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital. 
 
No charges have been issued at this time as the accident is still under investigation.
