A Shumway man has died due to what authorities believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports deputies were called about 10:47am Saturday to the shooting scene at a private residence in Shumway. Upon arrival, deputies found 27-year-old Michael S. Mosher had been shot in the shoulder. Mosher was taken for treatment and then transferred to Carle Hospital in Urbana. Mosher died later Saturday while being treated at Carle.

The Sheriff's Department reports it appears foul play was not involved, but the Sheriff's Office investigation continues. No further investigation is expected to be released until forensic evidence is analyzed and all interviews are completed. There are no known suspects at large and there is no perceived threat to the public.

The Effingham County Sheriff's Department is being assisted by the Illinois State Police, the Champaign County Coroner's Office and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations Unit.
