Springfield Clinic officials have named Ray Williams as the Clinic’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Williams, who most recently served as the Senior Vice President – Physician Mergers & Integration at International Council for Quality Care, Inc., a national consulting firm specializing in physician practice success, brings more than 30 years of experience with large, multi-specialty medical groups to his new role at Springfield Clinic.

In his former capacity, Williams consulted with health care organizations across the country, offering expertise in EHR optimization, medical practice integration, group mergers & acquisitions, ACO development and best practice benchmarking. For more than 25 years of his career in health care, Williams worked at Sentara Health in Norfolk, Virginia. At Sentara, a fully integrated health care system, he served as the Chief Administrative Officer of the Sentara Medical Group and held that position for more than 12 years prior to his exit in 2009.

Since that time, Williams has worked at two large, diversified health care systems in Washington and California. His leadership achievements include improving operational efficiency, redesigning primary care models, deploying information technology to drive quality and performance, and elevating the patient experience.

“Mr. Williams has clearly demonstrated his ability to manage large, integrated health care systems,” said Dr. Bill Putman, chairman of Springfield Clinic’s Board of Directors. “His experience on the national health care scene will be a great asset to our leadership team as we prepare for the future.”

As Springfield Clinic’s Chief Executive Officer, Williams will report directly to the Board of Directors. He will be responsible for managing the human, financial and physical resources of the organization, with the ultimate goals to provide the highest quality health care possible to the community, help partners and employees find satisfaction in their work and achieve sensible financial success.

Williams officially joined Springfield Clinic on Monday, January 23, replacing J. Michael Maynard, who was named interim CEO by the Board of Directors in July 2016. “Ray will be an outstanding addition to the Springfield Clinic team,” said Maynard, who served as Springfield Clinic’s CEO for more than 20 years prior to his retirement in 2008.
