Brownstown Man Killed in Crash Thursday

A Brownstown man was killed in a crash Thursday evening.

47-year-old Scott White was attempting to turn left off US Route 40 into a drive when a passing eastbound pickup truck driven by Joseph Beshel struck White's car. 

The Brownstown and Vandalia Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene. White was taken to Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia where he was pronounced dead by Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen.

The crash happened in Fayette County, a quarter-mile west of County Road 1470 East just after 6:30pm.

The crash remains under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, Fayette County Coroner's Office, and Illinois State Police. An autopsy will be conducted today to determine the cause of death.
