The Clay County Board has announced the hiring of Darin Koelm, P.E. as the new County Engineer. Koelm is replacing Michael Quandt, who passed away unexpectedly back in October of 2016.

Koelm has worked on both the public and private side of engineering, including his work with the Illinois Department of Transportation, District 7. He has family roots in Clay County. He currently resides in Indiana along with his wife and three children and plans on relocating to the area in the near future.

“We are excited that Darin has agreed to fill the position of County Engineer,” said Ted Whitehead, Clay County Board Chairman. “He comes to us with excellent credentials and experience, making him a perfect fit for the County.” Mr. Whitehead also stated, “I want to personally thank the Clay County Road and Bridge Committee Chairman Bryan Knapp, along with the other committee members Joe Goodman and John Bayler, for their efforts in the interview process and the hiring of Mr. Koelm. Also, we would all be remiss in not recognizing Acting County Highway Engineer Gary Wenthe for stepping in and helping the county out during the hiring search.”

Mr. Koelm will start his new duties and position on February 6.
