The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce will host an open house at the Chamber office at 903 North Keller Drive on Tuesday, January 17 to kick off the Chamber’s Centennial year and observe the founding of the Chamber on that date in 1917.

The Chamber was formed by a group of local business and civic leaders as the Effingham Merchants Association on January 17, 1917 to advance the business interests of the City of Effingham and vicinity. The first President of the Chamber was Theodore Gravenhorst. Over the years, the organization underwent several name changes and was named the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce in 2012.

Throughout its history, the Chamber has played a role in Effingham County’s economic growth, from purchasing land and raising funds for industrial development, funding studies for the development of Lake Sara and has been in the forefront of community initiatives like the Effingham Regional Career Academy, Effingham County Vision 2020, Effingham County CEO Class, Effingham County 911 and Trails Recreation Effingham County.

The public is invited to attend the Open House from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Coffee and doughnuts will be served and special door prize drawings will be held.
