Tyler Caswell, 18 of Salem, is in custody and remains in the Marion County Jail pending the filing of formal charges after gunfire broke out at a party at a home in the 700 block of Markland Street in Salem late Friday night.

Salem Police have confirmed Jacob Joyner, 21, and Jacob Hayes, 20, both from Salem were shot and taken to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment.

Salem Police initially responded to the home at 10:37 Friday night to a report of shots fired. They then spent most of the night questioning those in attendance.

Salem Police were assisted by the Marion County Sheriff's Department, Odin Police, Kinmundy Police and Illinois State Police.

Marion County State’s Attorney Bill Milner expects to be able to review the police reports on Sunday and make a final decision on charges and have bond set since court is not in session Monday due to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior Holiday.

Milner says it is his understanding that Hayes will be able to be interviewed about the case on Sunday as the Salem Police Department is continuing their investigation.
