The school facilities sales tax question that will be on the April election ballots in Effingham County is also to be considered by voters in Cumberland County.

The Cumberland school board voted at this month's meeting to put the question on the ballot.

Other counties are also considering the question. The South Central school board is holding a special meeting tonight to vote on whether to put the question on the ballot in Marion County. School districts representing at least 51% of the student population in a county have to approve the intiative for the question to be put on the ballot. The Centralia grade school board voted to put the question on the ballot, but the Salem grade school board voted against putting the question to the voters.

The 1% countywide sales tax would generate revenue for maintenance or new construction of school buildings.
