(DALLAS COWBOYS' RUNNING BACK EZEKIEL ELLIOTT GAINED SALVATION ARMY SOME GOOD PUBLICITY EARLIER THIS SEASON WHEN HE JUMPED INTO A RED KETTLE IN THE END ZONE AFTER SCORING A TOUCHDOWN)

Effingham County Salvation Army officials are thankful for your giving through the Christmas season.

Salvation Army Thursday announced that $27,734.70 was contributed into the red kettles during the 2016 Bellringer Campaign. That's up from the total given the previous year, and doesn't include other donations; that is solely from the revenue given during bellringing activity at Martin's IGA+, Walmart, K-Mart and Rural King.

Salvation Army in Effingham County focuses efforts on meeting the needs of people in crisis situations, be that fuel costs, rides for medical treatments, and the like.

Salvation Army officials were appreciative of the number of individuals who contacted them to see if they could help with bellringing. For example, the Effingham High School National Honor Society covered 3-1/2 days of bellringing this year.
