Weather-Related Crash Handled by City Police

Effingham city police handled just one weather-related crash resulting in injuries Thursday.

The crash happened just after noon east of the Salt Creek Bridge on East Route 40. 

Police say 79-year-old Charles King of Teutopolis lost control of his vehicle on the snow-covered highway and struck a vehicle driven by 43-year-old Patrick Mapes of Effingham. Both drivers sustained injuries, but both refused treatment. 

King was cited for improper lane usage.

City police also investigated a residential burglary of an apartment at 514 Hendelmeyer Avenue. The incident occurred sometime between 9am on December 26 and 3pm on Wednesday. 

Four DVDs were stolen, along with a purse and various toiletries. 

$30 damage was done to a door in the apartment during the incident.
