A vacancy has been filled on the Clay County Board.

The Board has appointed Shannon French to serve the term from District A until the next election. French's appointment follows the election of Rod Franklin to the seat in the November election.

The only problem is that Franklin already serves on the village board and the township board, and he would've needed to give up a seat he already held to take the seat on the County Board. So, Franklin declined the seat, leading to French's appointment to the Board.

The Board also reorganized in the wake of the November meeting. The current leadership was re-elected; Ted Whitehead as board chairman and Chris Rinehart as vice-chairman.

The Board also named Chris Bible to the Clay County Housing Authority Board, Dan Sulsberger and Clint Green to the IllinoiSouth Tourism Board.

Clay board members also approved an increase in the Court Security Fee that is charged in court cases to $50 with the proceeds going to the sheriff department budget.
