St. Anthony High School Principal Greg Fearday has announced that high school student Abby Buenker was selected for the prestigious honor of performing at the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) All-State Band Festival.

This is not the first time Buenker has been chosen for the ensemble. “To be selected for one of the ILMEA All-State ensembles is a huge accomplishment and honor,” said Christy Cyrus, Director of Bands.

In order to be considered for the ensemble, the student must prepare an audition that includes scales, two etudes, and sight reading.

“To be selected to represent St. Anthony High School means Abby is one of the top high school clarinetists in the state, Cyrus said. "The entire band is extremely proud of her.”

The Illinois Music Education Association exists to advocate for universal access to comprehensive music education; deliver exemplary professional development for educators; and provide outstanding musical experiences for all Illinois learners facilitated by licensed music educators. The association is the largest affiliate of The National Association for Music Education as well as the largest Fine Arts education organization in Illinois. The non-profit association works to represent every level of music education in every discipline.

Buenker will be representing the St. Anthony High School Band in Peoria on January 26-28. The conference will begin with an opening night concert on Wednesday, January 25th. It will follow with three full days of performances by local band representatives from all over Illinois.
