Shelbyville resident Matthew Garmon faces two years in prison after being found guilty of criminal trespass to residence with a person present.

The 28-year-old Garmon was sentenced Wednesday in Shelby County Circuit Court.

The charge stems from an August 23rd incident when Garmon forced his way into the residence of his girlfriend after breaking down the door frame and entered the residence while her 10-year-old and four-year-old daughters were in the front room of the house. The girlfriend said she told Garmon to leave and he threw her to the ground just outside the front door. She said Garmon tried to grab her cell phone in an attempt to prevent her from phoning the police. His stepbrother took Garmon home, but he was arrested at his residence a short time later.

The original Class X felony count of home invasion was dismissed as part of a negotiated plea.
