The University of Illinois has a new policy to better protect children while they're on campus. In the wake of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal, the University of Illinois will now run criminal background checks on any employees that come into contact with minors.

The new policy will be implemented at all three campuses for the school. The criminal background checks are in addition to sexual harassment training that was a part of a state law to report suspected abuse. The colleges will also keep better records of all of their activities with children.

The school says they already had good safeguards in place for children, but the new policy will take that a step further.
