There's no timetable, but Teutopolis school officials know that sometime, something is going to have to be done regarding the high school building, portions of which are almost 90 years old.

Teutopolis Superintendent Bill Fritcher shared at Monday night's board meeting information developed by their architect as to what are their options. Fritcher shared a proposed renovation would cost $4.4 million. That would involve the original 1929 portion of the building and a 1949 addition. It would not involve the newest portion on the west that is less than 20 years old and would not involve a 1960 addition. Fritcher said the proposed renovation involves the multi-story area on the front of the building.

If the renovation project is undertaken, it would involve an elevator and chairlifts due to ADA requirements.

Fritcher said if the decision would be replace rather than renovate, the open area between the newest section and the baseball diamond could be utilized.

Fritcher emphasized that the initial goal is to make accurate information available to the public before any decision is made on how to proceed.
