Five People Injured in Wednesday Crash

Complete details are in on a crash on South Banker in Effingham last Wednesday.

The crash happened just after 3pm at 1200 South Banker. City police say a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Siarra Araiza of Effingham rear-ended a vehicle driven by 49-year-old Steven Nichols of Decatur, causing Nichols' vehicle to rear-end a vehicle driven 30-year-old Claudia Rico-Gonzalez of Effingham.

Araiza and two passengers in Araiza's vehicle, nine-year-old Jayda Allen and six-year-old Kaynan Leverett, both of Effingham, were injured and taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Nichols and a passenger in Rico-Gonzalez's vehicle, six-year-old Vania Gomez of Effingham were injured, but refused treatment.

Araiza was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, while Rico-Gonzalez was cited for no valid driver's license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
