Today marks the start of collection of shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Operation Christmas Child is a worldwide effort coordinated by Samaritan's Purse, a ministry that provides help to people around the world in crisis situations.

However, the ministry is also well-known for Operation Christmas Child, where people pack a shoebox with toys, hygiene items, books, writing materials, and other goods. The shoeboxes are then shipped to kids around the world.

The collection headquarters for Effingham is Cornerstone Christian Church on South Banker.

Here are the hours for collection of shoeboxes:

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, November 14, 15 and 16--9-11am

Thursday and Friday, November 17 and 18--5:30-7:30pm

Saturday, November 19--9-11am

Sunday, November 20--2-5pm

Monday, November 21--9am-8pm.
