Two days after Election Day, City of Effingham Mayor Jeff Bloemker issued a statement calling for the powers that be in Springfield to get back to the table to solve the State of Illinois’ legislative and fiscal gridlock.

“Now that the election is in our rearview mirror, our leaders in Springfield need to come together in the spirit of cooperation,” stated Mayor Bloemker. “ I’m pleased that Governor Rauner has wasted no time in extending an invitation to the four legislative leaders to meet in Springfield on Monday to discuss agreeing to a balanced budget with reforms.  The City of Effingham would benefit tremendously from a balanced budget coupled with structural reforms.  A balanced budget would provide critical funding for Effingham and reforms like Workers Compensation and Pension reform will save local municipalities much needed dollars to fund local operations.  I urge the leaders of the General Assembly to meet as soon as possible to negotiate these serious issues.”
