Fayette County continued the trend of high voter turnout in Tuesday's election.

Just under 73% of those registered in Fayette County cast a ballot.

The closest contest was the battle for State's Attorney, where incumbent Joshua Morrison held off a challenge from former State's Attorney Stephen Friedel, 4,935 to 4,447.

In the race for Circuit Clerk, incumbent Kathy Emerick won re-election over Democrat challenger Ashley Towler, 5,542 to 3,937.

In the County Coroner's contest, incumbent Republican Bruce Bowen was re-elected over Democrat challenger Lori Carter, 6,966 to 2,472.

In contests for Fayette County Board, Jenny Austin Waggoner defeated longtime Board member Jean Finley, 861 to 495, in District 1.

In one of the few public questions in our area this election cycle, the question of whether the prohibition of liquor sales in Otego Township outside the Brownstown village limits should continue lost. 150 people voted the prohibition should continue, but 253 said the prohibition should not continue.
