A new series of Effingham County historical presentations will begin Thursday night at the Effingham County Museum in the historic Courthouse.

As in the past, the meetings will begin at 7pm as speakers celebrate the story of Effingham County.

In the first program in the series, Dean Manuel, Chairman of Effingham's St. John's Lutheran Church 150th Anniversary Committee, will speak about "Proclaiming God's Unchanging Word to a Changing World (1866-2016), the 150-Year History of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Effingham. Manuel will present a visual and oral history of the congregation, revealing a record of a family of God working to do what was right according to their conscience, their faith and God's Word.

The presentation will seek to answer questions such as: Who were the charter members? Where were they from? Why did they settle in Effingham? When did this German Lutheran church become "English"? What has changed in the past 150 years and what has not?

The series will continue the second Thursday of each month through March 9, 2017, and is sponsored by the Effingham County Cultural Center and Museum Association, an organization devoted to the preservation of the history of Effingham County.
