Accident Late Friday Night Closes Interstate 70 West of St. Elmo for Several Hours

State Police report at 11:36pm Friday night a semi pulling a trailer hauling cattle was traveling westbound on I-70 four miles west of St. Elmo when a deer ran out in front of the semi. The driver of the semi, Cory Acker, 26, of Shreve Ohio, tried to avoid the deer and left the roadway into the center median where he overturned onto the drivers side. Several cattle got loose resulting in five additional reported crashes where vehicles struck the cows. 

There were no injuries reported in any of the crashes, however 11 cows perished.

Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
