Members of the Effingham County Vision 2020 Community Breakfast Committee and Altamont residents recently planted a tree in Altamont.

Jeff Fritchtnitch, Altamont Unit 10 Superintendent, said, “Altamont CUSD #10 is thankful to the Vision 2020 Committee for the Recognition Tree. This is the first of several trees that will be planted north of our newly renovated baseball complex at Altamont High School. The baseball program and district will be planting 4-5 more trees along with other landscaping plants (from the newly renovated greenhouse) along with creating a picnic area around the trees for comfort while our visitors and home spectators enjoy Indian Baseball.”

“The tree planting is the fourth of a total of ten tree plantings to be held in each Effingham County community in recognition of the communities’ success and progress toward the mission of Vision 2020,” said Norma Lansing, Effingham County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO and Vision 2020 spokesperson. “Vision 2020 was established in 2005 by a group of community volunteers who began working together to inspire Effingham County residents to build upon their individual strengths and increase their potential, imagination, and cooperation to positively affect their quality of life as a community. Their efforts have created a dynamic process, designed to change as new ideas and opportunities present themselves."

Several committees have worked together to make a positive impact Effingham County in several areas including: retail and tourism, education, job creation and retention, culture arts and leisure, community values, infrastructure/natural resources/governance and healthcare.
