The City of Effingham is moving ahead with its project to resurface and otherwise improve Jefferson Avenue from Willow Street, east past the cemetery to US Route 40.

Due to work on that project at the intersection of Cleveland and Jefferson, that intersection will be closed the remainder of this week. Residents will still be able to gain access to Jefferson from Long Street and from Oakridge Street.

Next week, October 3-7, the intersection of Cleveland and Jefferson will be open and the intersection of Long Street and Jefferson Avenue will be closed to replace curbs. Residents will be able to access Jefferson Avenue next week from Cleveland Street and Oakridge Street.

Motorists are asked to slow down and be alert for construction equipment and crews in the construction zone.
