Deb Philpot's resignation due to retirement as district superintendent has been accepted by the St. Elmo Board of Education.

Philpot's retirement is effective June 30, 2017.

In a letter to the Board, Philpot said she is grateful for being able to have spent 18 of nearly 34 years in education serving in the St. Elmo District. She thanked the Board, staff, community members, parents, and students for their support throughout the years. She wrote, "God has truly blessed me in many ways!"

Philpot received her first full time public school teaching job at St. Elmo, and returned to the district when hired as superintendent in 2005. Her first principal's job was at Ramsey High School in 1990, and she moved into the Ramsey superintendent's job in 1995.

Philpot noted the St. Elmo board has decided to conduct the superintendent's search themselves, and will not utilize an outside consultant, a decision she feels is a good one. She will help get the search materials out and posted, but will not be involved in the interview of employment process.

In other business, the St. Elmo board adopted the budget for the coming fiscal year; approved an Enterprise Zone resolution for the St. Elmo proposal for a zone; and dismissed Tara McWhorter as 5th/6th grade cheer coach, effective immediately.
