Mattoon Police Make Arrest After Armed Robbery

Mattoon police have arrested a man following an armed robbery early Thursday morning at a motel.

Police were dispatched at 3:25am to a room at the Suite Dreams Hotel on Broadway Avenue East. They were called concerning an armed robbery that had reportedly occurred. Officers spoke with the victim who stated that unauthorized people entered his room and displayed a weapon and took his money without his authority.

Mattoon officers arrested 33-year-old Adrian Vasquez of Mattoon at 9:45am Thursday on counts of armed robbery and aggravated battery with a weapon.

The victim of the robbery was treated by EMTs for minor injuries. Mattoon police learned during their investigation that the incident was not a random act in that Vasquez knows the victim.

Vasquez is being held in Coles County Jail.
