Corn Harvest in Illinois Slightly Behind Average

The corn harvest in Illinois is slightly behind the recent average.

The weekly crop report indicates 9% of the corn crop is in the bins. That compares to the five-year average of 14%.

The corn crop is still in great shape; 85% in either good or excellent condition.

Soybean harvest is soon to follow. Soybean condition statewide shows 80% of the crop in either good or excellent condition.

Moisture supplies are also still in very good shape; 97% of the topsoil and subsoil moisture supplies are adequate to surplus.

The average temperature for the week ending September 18 was 70.9 degrees, 4.3 degrees above normal, while precipitation averaged 0.97 inches, 0.12 inches above normal.
