Marijuana plants have been found growing in a rural area near Rose Hill.

Jasper County State's Attorney Chad Miller said Conservation Police Sergeant David Hyatt and the Jasper County Sheriff's Department seized marijuana plants from the Rose Hill area on Monday.

The largest of the plants was approximately 10 feet tall. The plants would have an approximate street value of $5,000 apiece.

Miller said the plants were located on the property of an unsuspecting land owner. He said it's common for production fields like this one to be planted on someone else's property in areas that are not often visited. An investigation continues to determine who planted, and was caring for, the plants.

Miller said, "This is just an example of the continued collaborative efforts on drug enforcement in Jasper County. Our agencies continue to work together to keep drugs off our streets. My office remains focused on diligently addressing drug prosecution."
