Lake Land College trustees have agreed to seek approval for a project to improve building safety and accessibility.

Work in the Northeast Building on campus is estimated to cost $1.1 million.  The project will involve a review of the fire alarm system and making needed improvements, upgrades to the restrooms to make sure they are ADA-compliant, replacement of interior doors from the classrooms to the corridors, and renovation of the exterior door controls.

The project is part of a renovation of the older buildings on the Lake Land campus and part of an effort to make the campus more energy-efficient.  The Northeast Building was built in 1968 and is one of the original buildings on campus.

Trustees also accepted a trust from the late Burnham and Nancy Neal estimated at $500,000.  Mrs. Neal died in 2006 while Burnham Neal died earlier this year.  The Trust is administered by the Eastern Illinois University Foundation.  The Neals were longtime supporters of both Lake Land and Eastern.
