One big problem has faced the Effingham County Board's Grants Committee; they can't find any grant funds.

The topic arose at Tuesday's Effingham County Board Economic Development Committee meeting. Many of the Economic Development Committee members are also on the Grants Committee. They agreed it hasn't been for lack of trying that funds haven't been generated; the funds have "dried up" in the words of more than one committee member.

That led to discussion about merging the Grants Committee into the Economic Development Committee. The Grants Committee is expected to discuss the idea at their meeting on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Economic Development Committee heard that, while a couple of firms that have borrowed county-held grant monies are a little behind on their payments, they have all made payments recently. Committee members agreed that a "good faith effort" by the borrowers is welcomed.

More than $33,000 in funds are now available for those considering opening or expanding a business or industry. Contact Committee Chairman Dave Campbell or the County Board Office at 342-4990 for more information.
