A Flat Rock teenager was fatally injured in an overnight crash in Cumberland County Friday.

Cumberland County Coroner Chuck Layton identified the girl as 16-year-old Carrington Wesner.

A SUV driven by 22-year-old Shelby A. Sparling of Hidalgo was traveling on a rural road at 12:25am Friday. The unit ran into loose gravel at an intersection, causing Sparling to apply her brakes. The vehicle then slid off the roadway to the right. Police say Sparling overcorrected, which caused the vehicle to begin flipping side to side back across the roadway to the north. Wesner, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected from the vehicle.

The vehicle came to a stop resting on its side. Sparling was able to get out of the vehicle on her own. She was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment of what police termed minor injuries.

Sparling was cited for improper lane usage.
