Mattoon city police have arrested a Springfield woman on counts of home invasion, armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm.

21-year-old Audrey Ross was arrested Tuesday in Springfield by Mattoon police with assistance from Springfield police and the US Marshal's Service.

(AUDREY ROSS)

The charges allege that Ross and a co-conspirator, 22-year-old Willie A. Simpson of Springfield, forcibly entered a residence in the 1000 block of North 12th Street in Mattoon at 6:17pm Sunday. While in the residence, it's alleged the pair robbed the resident and struck him with a firearm. The resident and his dog were both shot during the commission of the offenses. The man shot is recovering at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, and the dog is recovering, as well.

Ross is being held in Sangamon County Jail in Springfield on $250,000 bond.

(WILLIE SIMPSON)

The Coles County State's Attorney's Office Wednesday issued a warrant for Simpson on the same counts with which Ross has been charged. Simpson remains at large.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Simpson is encouraged to contact Mattoon police at 235-5451 or Coles County Crimestoppers at 1-866-345-8488.
