(SHERIFF DAVID MAHON RECEIVING HIS NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARD)

We told you that today is the day that Effingham County Sheriff David Mahon is being honored as the American Legion's National Law Enforcement Official of the Year.

We learned this morning that Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner was made aware of the honor, and has proclaimed today, August 31, at Sheriff David Mahon Day in the State of Illinois.

Last year, the sheriff was selected as the American Legion Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for the state of Illinois, which advanced him to the American Legion Department of Illinois Convention in Springfield. He then was selected as American Legion Central Region Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for 2016. That put him in the running as one of five Regional candidates for the national award. He learned of the National honor at the Department of Illinois Convention.

The Central Region is comprised of Maryland, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia and Department of France.

Sheriff Mahon received the National award at the American Legion 98th Annual National Convention in Cincinnati.

Here is the proclamation from Governor Rauner designating today as Sheriff David Mahon Day in Illinois.
