More than 600 individuals took part in The Biggest Loser Community Challenge sponsored by HSHS and organized by HSHS Medical Group.

608 individuals across central and southern Illinois took part in the eight week challenge and more than 100 participants won prizes such as Garmin Vivofits and Jennie-O Turkey coupons. The grand prize winner, Al Crites of Sherman, Ill., won a one week stay at the Biggest Loser Resort in Palm Desert, California.

The Biggest Loser Community Challenge was launched with live events in O’Fallon and Springfield, Ill., featuring trainer, Dolvett Quince and HSHS Medical Group outreach representative Sonya Jones. Participants received weekly motivation and nutrition tips from Dolvett Quince as they worked through eight weekly challenges. Participants earned points for each minute of activity they engaged in, as well as additional points for completing weekly tasks and logging additional challenge activities designed to improve nutrition and overall wellness. Each participant had access to their own private wellness account and mobile app, where they could journal challenge activities, access weekly health guidance and keep their eye on friends and competitors on live leaderboards.

“HSHS Medical Group is deeply committed to the well-being of our communities,” says Melinda Clark, Chief Executive Officer of HSHS Medical Group. “The Biggest Loser Community Challenge was an opportunity to invest in the lives of our friends and neighbors. What a fun, encouraging way to work toward a healthier lifestyle.”

Alic Walker, BLCC participant said, “The challenge has motivated me to change the person I am inside and out. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing this challenge to us!”
